untitled-presentationAbout Our Program

Dear Families,

Thank you so much for your interest in our program!  Our passion at ChampionsTX is helping children grow and develop into even more wonderful versions of themselves.  I love getting to know families and becoming a part of your parenting team, whether you entrust us with your child for 1 or 40+ hours/week!   Champions Explorers is a fully licensed, early learning center for active kids, where children rotate through our 24,000 sq. foot campus, learning by what children do best, exploring.  With daily gymnastics, an outdoor classroom, and each age group sharing two themed S.T.E.A.M. classrooms, it is a truly unique learning experience for little ones, and I’m very excited for all the things we have in store.

Our program is located in the ChampionsTX facility.  This setting allows for a truly unique preschool experience by allowing children to learn and grow while doing what they do best, moving and exploring the world around them.  Children learn through sensory and movement based experiences.  We have placed an emphasis on this style of learning in our classrooms by designing a preschool curriculum that integrates physical play with academic learning.

We are a family owned and locally owned and operated company, and our parent company of ChampionsTX has been in business over 23 years serving the families of the West Austin area.  One thing you’ll find by enrolling in our school is that we truly care about your family, and you’ll become a part of the ChampionsTX family.  We host parent seminars, Parents’ Night Outs, family events, and through the ChampionsTX campus have many activities and camps that all of the siblings can attend at the same time.   We aim to make your life easier, your child love coming here, and your child continually a more well rounded Champion! :)

We know this is a unique preschool program, so we encourage you to email your questions or schedule a visit to come and view our facility.  If you have any more questions, big or small, please feel free to contact me.   We are also holding a few open houses; follow us on instagram for updates.  Again, let me know if you have any questions, at any time!  We look forward to hearing from you!

Sincerely,

Alison Callaway

Curriculum, Goals & Objectives

Our focus is to prepare, educate, and mentor students for a successful primary school education and beyond.   It is our mission to take advantage of every teachable moment that happens by fostering the creative, social, intellectual, and emotional development of our students.  A play-based approach provides a child-centered curriculum directed by teachers in which children are encouraged to construct their own knowledge. We believe our program reflects the needs and goals of children and families.  We look forward to working closely with families which will provide an integrated, comprehensive approach by learning.

It is our goal to provide our children with many opportunities to experience all areas of development with the availability of a wide variety of materials and learning experiences.

● Children will develop respectful behavior for each other and the environment, through pride in work, acceptance of other’s work, and respect for differences as they continue to become autonomous.

● Children will be supported in letter recognition, writing, and sound/symbol association through books, journals, games, puzzles, and songs.

● Children will experience technology through the use of classroom technology.

● Our objective is to guide children as they continually practice expressing emotions, developing empathetic behaviors, learning appropriate strategies for entering and maintaining play situations, practicing conflict resolution, and strengthening self-discipline and self-confidence.

● In providing a respectful and empathetic environment we intend to develop a community of learners, who care for one another.

Last but certainly not least, we are committed to ensuring that the children, families, and teachers act as collaborators.  It is through a strong parenting team that children really prosper.  Communication and feedback is encouraged daily through opportunities to share information in the morning, the afternoon, on the phone, at parent-teacher conferences, and monthly events.  Take home folders, monthly newsletters, the @ChampionsTX_Explorers instagram account, and Facebook will further facilitate the exchange of information.

At ChampionsTX we recognize each child has their own unique learning style, interests and learns best through play. With this in mind, we designed our program to offer multiple opportunities for each child to grow socially, emotionally, cognitively and physically at their own pace.

Our children learn to trust, work with others, question the world around them all while being exposed to Science, Math & Language Arts activities. By using the program’s Scope and Sequence teachers are able to incorporate  developmentally appropriate activities for each age group. The Scope and Sequence brochure also serves as a tool for parents to identify what objectives and skills the classes will be focusing on each month.

Older children will visit two classrooms each day, themed for different pathways of learning at an advanced level.  One room has an emphasis on science and art,  while the other room has an emphasis on literacy and math. Both rooms contain blocks and other engineering manipulatives, puzzles, and fine motor activities. Our Pre-K students will also be using the Handwriting Without Tears curriculum to fully prepare them for Kindergarten.

Specialty classes extend the curriculum even further at the end of the school day.  Depending on the day, the children will participate in either Sign Language, Spanish or Music.   Music class encourages development of rhythm, tone, verbal skills, and coordination, through song play and dance.   The language specialty classes will be taught by our teachers and are meant to offer exposure to other cultures and in order to further develop language and learning skills. Children will also be encouraged to use the vocabulary they have learned throughout the day.  The earlier children are exposed to new languages, the better their chances of retention and proficiency.  Furthermore, learning a new language teases out similarities and differences between the primary language and others and leads to a better understanding of one’s primary language.

11250152_10153357284985239_5491131162771338921_nAll children in the Explorers program participate in an age appropriate gymnastics class each day – taught by GymKids coaches in the attached gymnastics gym. By incorporating daily gymnastics into our program, our children are provided another opportunity to develop gross motor skills, fine motor skills, trust, and perseverance.

Children in the ChampionsTX program participate in classes during their school day, including gymnastics from our GymKids department and multi-sport, which focuses on general coordination and fitness.  Children attending on Wednesdays also have a Yo-Rate class, which is a mix of yoga and karate, teaching young bodies about control and calmness.

Our goal is to be great influences on children’s lives.  Our teachers strive to constantly incorporate healthy role models and even incorporate our outdoor garden into the children’s curriculum.  We work with kids on their ability to self-soothe and children in the full day program will take a nap every day after the morning session.  The program will reinforce life skills on a daily basis, including hand washing, friendship, manners, toilet training, calendar and time.

The ChampionsTX Explorers program strives to set the standard for preschool curriculum.  Toddlers use early level robotics activities to prepare them for a world of ever-evolving technology.  Our science program includes a wide range of ways to learn about the world around them, from physical science to weather and nature to experiments, so that children develop a love for learning.  We even use our gymnastics and sport class to teach patterns, counting, and alphabet, and our specialty classes introduce other languages and cultures.

poppy-beam-2Daily Gymnastics

All children in the Explorers program participate in an age appropriate gymnastics class each day – taught by GymKids coaches in the attached gymnastics gym. By incorporating daily gymnastics into our program, our children are provided another opportunity to develop gross motor skills, fine motor skills, trust, and perseverance.

Benefits of Gymnastics for Preschoolers:

FITNESS – Experiencing fun association with fitness activities early in life can create life-long positive fitness habits.

MENTAL FOCUS – Learning how to concentrate

on a task and achieving goals.

BALANCE – Walking beams can transfer later to riding a bike.

SOCIAL SKILLS – Taking turns, working with partners, sharing, making friends and acknowledging the accomplishments of others.

STRENGTH – Climbing on bars and ropes develops muscle strength.

FLEXIBILITY – Improved range of motion through stretching and holding body positions.

COORDINATION – Hand-eye coordination improves writing ability while eye-tracking improves reading readiness.  The fine motor coordination picked up from grasping the bars allows our language arts curriculum to proceed at an accelerated rate – we have many 2 year

olds performing lacing activities at Pre-K level!

BURN CALORIES – Help jumpstart a life of fitness, and allow kids to get their energy out during a day of learning.

THE SPORT OF ALL SPORTS – Gymnastics prepares kids for ALL sports.  Many children who start with a foundation in gymnastics go onto other sports and pick them up rapidly due to the coordination and motor skills that gymnastics has bestowed upon them.

AN ACTIVE ADDITION TO DAILY CURRICULUM – Our GymKids and Explorers staff work together to bring the preschool curriculum into the gymnastics gym, so that our preschoolers have even further exposure to what they are learning on a daily basis.  The more ways a child can experience their daily curriculum, the easier it is to understand and quicker it is to grasp.  For example, when we are working on counting to five, our Explorers gymnastics curriculum involves repeating many different moves five times or holding different poses to the count of five.

Outdoor Classroom

In our program, children receive daily gross motor during their gymnastics class, therefore we are able to use our outdoor time to incorporate a lot more learning than a traditional “playground” concept.  During outdoor time, the Explorers practice their writing skills and fine motor on chalkboards and magnetic boards, have imaginative play with our sailboat, sandbox, and house, and study science concepts through gardening, observing nature, weather, and utilizing ramps, magnets, blocks, etc.  Loose parts and the freedom to create their own play are also highly instrumental to children’s learning in the outdoor classroom.  Children love to play with “loose parts” which they can move about, use for their own self-selected construction projects and incorporate into their dramatic play.  Did you know that studies indicate that children actually prefer to play with stones, bricks, stumps, sand and other natural materials to carefully designed playground equipment?  The theory of loose parts has begun to influence child-play experts and playscape designers in a big way.  It was first proposed back in the 1970′s by architect Simon Nicholson, who believed that it is the loose parts in our environment that empower our creativity.  In a preschool, loose parts are materials that can be moved, carried, combined, redesigned, lined up, and taken apart and put back together in multiple ways.  They are materials with no specific set of directions that can be used alone or combined with other materials.  Our children never stop creating and constructing using loose parts: tyres, milk crates, wooden boards, logs, rope…anything they can get their hands on.  When we step back and give them the time and  freedom to move things around, learning happens.

Caring Teachers

Our teachers are nurturing and enthusiastic, so that your child feels like their Explorers school is a second home and is inspired every day.  Our teachers are dedicated and passionate about creating environments which support a love for learning and building secure relationships.  They all participate in ongoing professional development and are committed to furthering their knowledge in the early childhood education and care industry.  Our focus is to prepare, educate, and mentor students for a successful primary school education and beyond.  It is our mission to take advantage of every teachable moment that happens by fostering the creative, social, intellectual, and emotional development of our students.

FAQ

Why does your program go until 3:30pm?

We believe a happy child is a well adjusted child! Many part-time programs do not offer a rest or nap for their children. By doing this, many children do not nap or instead only fall asleep for brief periods of time in the car while on the way home or doing errands. By allowing our children to rest well, we are meeting the needs of the children in our program. This also allows parents with older children an opportunity to hear about their day while your younger child enjoys their Special Classes of the day. You always have the option to pick your child up early if you choose to do so.  Our goal is to make things simpler for the Explorers families.

What is your ratio of teachers to students?

Here you’ll see our ratios per class.  This is one of the big reasons for our higher than average cost:  we have good teachers and we stick to our ratios, and it shows in the quality of our program.
